Entry for December 10, 2007

I just turned on the heat in the living
room and if I didn't have to charge
my camera battery I'd post a picture
of it here for you immediately.
(Instead there will be a short delay.)

It's 31 degrees outside, and nearly
50 degrees here in my bedroom. The
living room was over 40 degrees if I
remember the thermometer correctly.

Having realized that I make quite a
lot of heat, I walked around my
house a few times this morning after
I put on water for coffee, so as to
distribute that heat.

Primitive? Not unlike going camping
when I was young! And you know
what... I'm so loving it. I was
thinking just yesterday how much
fun this is. I was reflecting on how
much more fun it is to have less
electricity and therefore spend more time communicating via my website,
rather than watching telly.

I did watch Amazing Race, though. I was so glad the bossy brother got
eliminated. I was also really happy to see Bianca eliminated on Top
Model. She was just so mean and mean spirited.

Then I went back to work on my site.

One of the site-related tasks I accomplished yesterday was to redo my
Fingernail-Lines page so that the images aren't quite so huge and so that it
includes images I took when my electric was shut off. (Very informative.)

Today I need to thank people who have purchased things through my site.
I need to thank them for the warmth they added to my life and the sense
of belonging they've given me. Happiness! Thanks!

Questions: I receive emails that ask a variety of questions. Over the
weekend I received this Message:
Please help I dont know what I am loooking at in my fingernails.
What is a moon?
Up until I began writing back and forth with this lovely, inquisitive
woman, I hadn't realized how hard it is to "know" what a moon is when
they have become small and you don't have them on all of your
fingernails

From "talking" with her I could see that I needed to improve my page
illustrating moons and ridges. Since the page has pictures of my nails
and since my B12 health is definitely not ideal with the result that my
moons are far from ideal, it wasn't entirely effective way at showing
moons. (Great at showing lack of moons, though.)

I put pointer lines in so that it's much easier to see what I'm talking
about, and
she wrote again:
Oh thats what the moons are. I am afraid for me then because
I only have moons on my thumbs. My fingers dont seem to
have any!!!
Whats better? B12 shots or vitamin
supplements?
I will look at your page, you probably address
this in there. Thanks for writing back. Your right, the stress
level the last 3 years has been out of this world.
B12 shots and B12 vitamins from a bottle are supposed to be the same.
But, and that's a big BUT.

First of all, the B12 for the shots is really cheap. It used to be about $6
for 30 shots worth from Wal*Mart, and another 26 cents a needle. So
that is really cheap.

But, the B12 for shots is most commonly the cyanocobalamin form
which has "cyano" in it, and that's a bit of a toxin. So a shot a month is
probably not that bad and you can take Milk Thistle to remove the
toxins... but when you are taking several shots a month, or even one a
day as I was when I was very sick with tetanus (after a couple of
months of a shot or two a day my peripheral neuropathy went away)
that is a lot of toxins to be adding to your body. If you are having quite
a few shots, it's really important to get
Milk Thistle and take it.

All of the above being true, I like the shots because they are a quick
infusion of B12. But, the needles are an inch and a half long. That
length is required because of where the B12 has to be placed... so the
shots get old really fast.

That brings us to vitamin pills of some nature... and of these there are
ones which you swallow, which are not good because of how hard it is
to get B12 out of the gastrointestinal system, and there are lozenges.

There are basically two types of lozenges, those with the
cyanocobalamin, already discussed, and those with methylcobalamin,
which are far superior. Get the
methylcobalamin. Order them from my
site so that you are sure to be buying the right kind.

Then, know that the lozenges are designed to provide you with as much
cobalamin in a month as a shot does immediately. That's not bad, it's
just that you need to keep that in mind so you aren't disappointed when
you don't feel results in the first few days, or even in two or three
weeks.

It took me quite awhile to switch over from the shots to the lozenges
because I tended to stop the shots too soon, and then I'd have
symptoms pop up again... and tinnitus is not something I like to live
with.

Finally I got it right and now I am totally, I mean TOTALLY delighted
with how well the lozenges work.
This evening - I want
to show how beautiful
the candle light is, but
my camera doesn't
appear to have the
capacity to show that
kind of light. In real
life the light is enough
to be able to see my
shelves in the
background, the plant
on them, books and
some art. I wish I
could show you how
beautiful it is.

I've left the candle on
all day, and actually I
think it makes it much
warmer in the house.
I know, hard to
believe, but it does
seem pretty warm. It's
23 degrees outside
and when I looked at
the thermometer a bit
ago it was around 45 degrees in the hallway. When I write that it sounds
as if I'm trying to talk about how cold it is, rather than how warm.

Right now, here in my tent it's getting to be too warm and I'll have to
open it up and let some heat into the room. (I have an image or two of my
tent
on this pg.)

What I'm reminded of by the candle and stainless-steel-bowl-heat is once
in London when I accidentally left the electric drying cabinet on when I
went out to the West End. When I came back, many hours later, the
whole house was warm. By warm, I mean not the really cold clammy
feeling that homes in London get in the winter. At the time we didn't have
central heat yet, so I used to have to light coal fires in whatever rooms I
wanted to heat. And, I wasn't very good at it.

So, when I realized that leaving the drying cabinet on in the basement
(where our kitchen and dining room were) was enough to heat the whole
house, I was amazed. I expect it did such a good job in part because of
the nature of London homes, which is that they are tall and not very wide.
So the heat rose. I don't think a drying cabinet would heat this linear home
nearly as well.

I'm going to go make a cup of coffee from the water I have on another
candle in the kitchen. I want to celebrate how beautiful this is.
