Vitamin B12 can prevent major birth defects -- March 2, 2009
Before becoming pregnant, women need to get enough vitamin B12 in
addition to folic acid to cut their risk of having a baby with a serious
birth defect of the brain and spinal cord, researchers said.
"Vitamin B12 is essential for the functioning of the nervous system and
for the production of red blood cells," says Duane Alexander, MD,
director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human
Development, which funded the study. "The results of this study
suggest that women with low levels of B12 not only may risk health
problems of their own, but also may increase the chance that their
children may be born with a serious birth defect."
Irish women with the lowest vitamin B12 levels were five times more
likely to have a baby with a neural tube defect than those with the
highest levels, the researchers wrote in the journal Pediatrics.
As an aside, I used to tell people about B12 on any forum I could
find. When posting on an Irish forum I got a lot of responses, but
then my posts were all deleted and I saw that the forum displayed
advertising from drug companies. Karen 3/2/09

7/27/07 -- I was so upset from the stress Wednesday, from filing my
condo appeal, that when I got home my right leg kept buckling and I
almost fell several times. I had to go to bed. I had a B12 shot, and that
helped get rid of the bolts of pain in my leg that I think were the cause
of the buckling, but I was still just so... feeling just so bad. I had posted
on an eBay forum, and a huge clique of regular posters attacked me
relentlessly. I began to feel as if all my efforts at everything are worth
nothing. After a couple days I was beginning to think I would never feel
good again. Then I checked my web hosting and I saw that someone
had purchased Methylcobalamin, and within an hour I felt so much
better. Because in reality I know that Methylcobalamin helps. It doesn't
help with everything, but with things that are related to nerves, it helps a
lot. So BIG THANKS to that person whoever it was who bought
Methylcobalamin and reminded me that putting the information out
there helps. It does help. I am grateful that I am able to do this site.
11/12/06 -- I just added the supplements, starting with Milk Thistle,
that have made a lot of difference since I started taking them about a
month ago.
4/18/06 HAPPINESS!!!!!
Today is the first day I could come onto my site and change anything
since January 1, 2006. That's when Yahoo made the use of its new,
improved SiteBuilder mandatory. The "new and improved" didn't like
my site: it weirded out a huge number of my pages, so if I'd tried to
change one singe letter on any page, the program would have
unformatted a huge number of other pages... so I couldn't change
anything. Yesterday Yahoo made a patch available, and today I can use
my site again. Happiness!!!!!!!! (I wasn't able to publish until April 22,
2006 -- because there were so many things I had to fix.)
9/25/2005 -- I just redid this page so that the newer
methylcobalamin choices would be shown. I hope the number of
choices isn't overwhelming.
Also, I got a bit confused as to how to make personal comments on the
SAMe which I think was really powerful in a good way and the
Dibencozide which seemed good, but which I didn't quite understand.
I got confused because this kind of page is really hard to do because all
of the links are connected in some invisible way that I don't understand.
I know they are connected because when I reposition a link near the
bottom, the Source Naturals links at the top of the page move, as do all
the links on the page. Hard to believe, but this page has taken me over
15 hours.
Sooooo, making this page is just the most excellent exercise to increase
my brain function. (Despite loss of hair through pulling out in utter
exasperation.) 9/25/2005
Country Life Betaine HCL, with fewer capsules, costs less.
A few years ago I was living on $11 a week, so I know how hard it is to
get the things you need when there just is not enough money.
Sometimes a few of something is better than nothing at all.
In terms of HCL (Hydrochloric Acid) I think it's very important. I've
begun taking it with Methylcobalamin sublinguals and swallowing the
sublinguals. I'm doing this because I was having trouble with tooth
decay from taking so many sublinguals. (I need to take 6 a day to equal
one B12 shot.) I can't be positive yet, but I think this is working. I had
horrible pins and needles and a spongy feeling when I was walking
yesterday, but today -- this is two swallowed Methylcobalamin tabs
taken with HCL later -- my feet are feeling a lot better. My toes are still
stiff, but maybe that will get better, too. (There's just been so much
stress lately.)
If you have symptoms of hypochlorhydria, but also have peptic ulcers
or gastritis, or are taking NSAIDS, then taking hydrocholoric acid is not
recommended.

Sublingual Methylcobalamin

Methylcobalamin is the form of vitamin B12 our bodies use. If you
take a multivitamin and it contains cyanocobalamin and if you're young
and don't have symptoms of low B12 your body will make some
methylcobalamin from it. But if you are older, have nerve damage or
have been battling stress your body won't get as much B12 as you may
need if you use the cyanocobalamin form.
Several investigations have shown that vitamin B12
levels decline with age. Low vitamin B12 impairs nerve
function, leading to pins-and-needles sensations, or a
burning feeling in the feet, less clear vision, as well as
impaired mental function.
Vitamin B12 benefits joints and mood.
B12 replacement has reduced my back and leg pain.
Years ago a doctor put me on antidepressants, "to help your neurotransmitters." The side affects were weight gain and hair loss. (What's more depressing than weight gain and hair loss?)
Methylcobalamin helps neurotransmitters without unwanted side affects.

Methylcobalamin is the active form of vitamin B12. It can be used
by the central nervous system and works immediately.

Only about 10 mcg of a 500 mcg vitamin B12 oral supplement is
actually absorbed in healthy people. (US gov website attributes this to
researcher Ralph Carmel, but the piece they site doesn't say this.)
General information: Vitamin B12, cobalamin is water-soluble and
essential for carbohydrate metabolism and energy production. It is vital
for neurological activity, including DNA replication, and aids in
production of S-adenosyl-L-methionine
(SAMe), which benefits joints and mood.
Vitamin B12 is essential for the formation of red blood cells, which
are linked to energy levels. Low B12 can cause fatigue. Because B12 is
vital for metabolism and energy production, it is useful in weight loss
and weight maintenance.
Normal nerve cell activity and tissue formation are provided by
vitamin B12. Methylcobalamin is the only form of B12 that can be used
by the central nervous system. Other forms of B12 must be converted
to methylcobalamin. In conversion some cyanocobalamin gets lost. This
is because the liver can't completely transform the common B12 forms
into the superior methylcobalamin form.
Methylcobalamin is effective in providing healthy brain and spinal
cord support. It is required for DNA replication, and production of
S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe).
Studies show vitamin B12 provides support for the cardiovascular
system. Together with vitamin B6 and folic acid, B12 maintains normal
levels of homocysteine, an amino acid found in the blood. Elevated
homocysteine levels are associated with increased risk of heart disease,
stroke, and additional health concerns, including Alzheimer’s disease
and osteoporosis. Plus, elevated homocysteine damages coronary
arteries and leads to excessive clotting.
Small amounts of B12 are found in common foods. The amounts of
B12 are so tiny that despite eating abundantly of these foods anyone
with a malabsorption condition, including bacterial overgrowth in the
intestines, may be low on B12. In these cases, additional B12 may be
not only desirable but useful.

Research shows that lozenges replace B12 as efficiently
injections.
(Some nutrients break down during liver metabolism. The sublingual
form is absorbed directly into the bloodstream, via the blood vessels
under the tongue, and in the cheeks, bypassing the liver and allowing
for quick entry into the system.)
Because of the link between memory loss and low vitamin B12
order now (so you don't forget); then, keep a Time Line, recording your
daily symptoms, doses and any serum test results you get. That way
you will be able to tell how much you improve, even if you've forgotten
how things were. If you don't improve, something else is wrong.
You'll Sleep Better with a Healthy
B12 Level!
Once your B12 levels are restored a
small amount of Melatonin will give you
a solid night's sleep. You are going to
love this - and there's no drugged feeling
the next day. Note: research shows that
a small dose is more effective than a
larger dose.
Melatonin is a natural substance made
by the pineal gland located in the brain.
Adequate melatonin levels help establish
healthy sleep patterns. It is released
primarily during the night. Malatonin
levels decrease as we get older.
Is it safe to take vitamin B12?
My neurologist told me three important things:
1. "It can't hurt you." He said that repeatedly.
2. "Take more when you're under stress, it will help your body deal
with the stress."
3. He said that in the old days they diagnosed pernicious anemia, a
form of B12 deficiency that is deadly if untreated, by prescribing B12
injections, watching to see if they helped, and then if they did,
diagnosing a vitamin B12 illness (because there must have been one if
B12 made the symptoms go away). My neurologist had me keep a
Time Line for this very reason, to see if there were changes in my
health. The changes were significant.
If you have symptoms of low B12, you owe it to yourself to begin
taking Methylcobalamin. You need to experience the difference it
makes.
If your symptoms don't go away, which rarely happens, then you
have some other problem and for sure should go to a doctor for
clarification.
In most cases the symptoms will go away or become very much
reduced. Buy Methylcobalamin for yourself, try it. Doing that is so
much better than getting the nerve and brain damage that I have.
Seriously, try it!

Gray’s Attorney’s Textbook of Medicine, says, “On physical
examination... those with B12 deficiency frequently look flabby.”
I believe the textbook says that to alert lawyers to the fact that a person
does not have to be skinny, to be B12 anemic.
I know I looked flabby. (When I began eating for my blood type, as
per D'Adamo, I lost 5 lb. a month by eating brown rice instead of pasta
and bread, even though I ate more. I tried it because D'Adamo talks
about how research showed that his diet guidelines reduce the
symptoms of pernicious anemia.
The diet reduces swelling at cell level. Also, the diet ended my
diarrhea.)
You can check it out at www.dadamo.com. There is a food database.
Also, there are these...

accelerating transmethylation reactions in the
manufacture of nucleic acids, neurotransmitters and
phospholipids."
I am grateful to Bonnie who wrote to me saying that she had been
living in hydrogen sulfide and then got tetanus, which is what I
experienced. She wrote that a liver cleanse had helped her and
suggested that I try it.
After weeks of research I began taking the things below. (I wish I'd
known about them years ago. They make a significant difference.) I
order from the following list every month. I'd love it (and I'd be so
appreciative) if you came to my site to order your vitamins every
month.
Milk Thistle is a tall herb with prickly leaves and milky sap that is
native to the Mediterranean region of Europe. Milk thistle is among
the most ancient of all known herbal medicines, having been used as
a folk remedy for centuries for liver complaints. Recent research has
shown that extracts of milk thistle do indeed protect against some very
nasty liver toxins.
For instance, research uncovered a host of antihepatotoxic (liver
protectant) compounds commonly referred to as silymarin. Silymarin
has been shown to consist of a large number of flavonolignans,
including silybin, isosilybin, dehydrosilybin, silydianin and silychristin.
In animal studies silymarin exerts a liver protective effect against a
variety of toxins, including the phallo toxins of the deadly Amanita
phalloides mushroom.
Amanita phalloides is one of the most poisonous mushrooms in the
world. Its toxins are particularly destructive to the liver. Ingestion of this
mushroom can lead to severe liver damage and death if untreated.
When silymarin was given before poisoning by the Amanita phalloides
mushroom, it was found to be 100 percent effective in preventing liver
damage. Silymarin was also found to be completely effective if given to
animals within ten minutes of exposure to the poison. When given
within twenty-four hours it still prevented death and greatly reduced the
amount of liver damage.
Silymarin also confers protection against the liver damage from
dangerous solvents such as carbon tetrachloride and ethanol (alcohol).
Silymarin has been used in the treatment of hepatic disorders in
humans, and a German medical study found that liver function in
patients with chronic hepatitis improved after three months of therapy
with silymarin. A later study reported on the use of 420 milligrams of
silymarin daily in patients with cirrhosis of the liver. Of twenty followed
up for six to thirty-six months, ten were definitely improved and four
had deteriorated.
The results of numerous studies suggest that silymarin not only protects
liver cells by preventing the actions of toxic substances but that it also
stimulate protein synthesis to accelerate the regeneration and production
of liver cells.
Silymarin and component silybin function as antioxidants, protecting
cell membranes from free-radical-mediated oxidative damage. This
type of damage is known as lipid peroxidation. Most liver toxins
produce their damaging effects by free radical mechanisms. Both
silymarin and silybin protect red blood cell membranes against lipid
peroxidation and hemolysis (breaking down of the red blood cells).
Start out slow. It releases toxins from your liver; the effect can be
intense if there are many toxins. Don’t take more than one a day for the
first two weeks. (Using more I felt as if my mind had turned to cement.)
Alpha lipoic acid -- a “vitamin-like compound with antioxidant
properties. It promotes healthy cell function and provides protective
benefits against oxidative processes contributing to degenerative
diseases and aging… ALA has been called the "universal" antioxidant.
Besides neutralizing unstable free radical molecules in the body, ALA
boosts glutathione (a powerful antioxidant) levels in cells.”
Alpha Lipoic Acid is used in Europe to restore liver health, ease
diabetes neuropathy. Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA), also called thioctic
acid, is more potent than vitamins C, E and Co-Q10, according to Dr.
Lester Packer, Professor of Molecular Biology at U.C. Berkeley. It
may be the most important antioxidant ever discovered. "The
therapeutic potential of alpha-lipoic acid is just beginning to be
explored," observed Packer.
Magnesium -- “a mineral needed by every cell of your body. It helps
maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady,
and bones strong. In addition it is often called an anti-stress mineral as it
has a calming effect and can assist in inducing restful sleep… Among its
other benefits, magnesium is a natural antihistamine.”
I am concentrating on taking magnesium several times a day. That's
because the periodontist told me I have an infection around my dental
implants that is eating away bone weakened by the Ibuprofen I took.
(I've stopped using pain killers unless the pain is impossible to handle.)
Since taking magnesium I haven't been as feeling sick. (The periodontist
said the infection was making me sick. I was feeling sick quite a lot, and
losing hair.) Because of its importance I did a page on Magnesium.
Lecithin -- supports healthy liver, cardio systems and metabolism.
Lecithin is a compound made up of two fatty acids and choline, and is
the most common phospholipid in the body. Phospholipids form a
protective barrier around cells and are a building block of cell
membranes.
It is prevalent in soybeans, egg yolks, oatmeal, wheat germ and peanuts.
Lecithin is an important nutrient, especially where the brain, liver,
muscle and reproductive organs are concerned because they contain
high concentrations of phospholipids.
Whey Protein -- Albumin is of particular interest to researchers because
of its concentrations of glutamylcysteine, a percursor to the antioxidant
glutathione. It supports muscle development because it is a rich, natural
source of BCAAs - a combination of Isoleucine, Leucine and Valine,
important fuel components of muscle tissue. Glycomacropeptides -
improve digestion and nutrient absorption.
It improves the growth of bifidobacteria and is rich in amino acids that
raise the biological efficiency of the protein. Bifidobacteria are associated
with fewer allergies (Björkstén et al., 2004) and also prevent some forms
of tumor growth. Guarner and Malagelada, 2003.
After I began having Whey a huge bed sore resolved, the terrible pain that I had in muscles/nerves affected by the tetanus became less frequent, the abscess feeling from the dental infection in my jaw happened less and didn't make me as sick. Whey is helping my body actually heal, because of the amino acids which are said to be "building blocks."
I get both Vanilla and Chocolate and use a mixture in two to three mugs of coffee a day. (As someone with type A blood, coffee is beneficial for me, and I love it. I have it with Creamer, the cheap kind from Wal*Mart because it doesn't have aluminum in it.) I also add a generous sprinkle of cinnamon which is helpful against depression. : ) All together I've been feeling MUCH better since I've been having the Whey.

This is NOT a potent enough source of the B Complex Vitamins to

Jarrow Formulas B-Right --This B Complex has Methylcobalamin
for its B12. This is very rare. Most B Complex vitamins contain the
older form of B12, Cyanacobalamin.
Taking B Complex vitamins, five or more a day, rid me of my allergies
which were extremely bad. And, I mean COMPLETELY. I
discovered this when I was taking them thinking that they would raise
my B12 level. (They did not raise my B12 level.) That was before I
knew much about B12. So, in early January I will order this. It's best
to start taking it before the allergens are in the air. I failed to order
this until March and I am suffering with allergies because that
was too late to start. : ( It has helped a great deal since it
arrived, but it has not wiped out my allergies. If I had taken it
prior to the allergy season I would not have had any allergies,
based on my past experience.

It doesn't have very much Co Q10, but I'm putting this here in case I
want it later.
NSI® Mitochondrial Energy Booster with 200 mg of CoQ10
enhances energy and supports cardiovascular health and helps boost
energy at the cellular level. It contains Acetyl L-carnitine which helps
transport fat through the cell membrane where it is more efficiently
utilized in the mitochondria of the cell.
This product also contains Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), or ubiquinone, a
naturally- occurring, vitamin-like nutrient. In its highest concentration,
CoQ10 is found in cell mitochondria where energy is produced. This
versatile antioxidant supports heart function and helps to convert food
and oxygen into energy. It may support healthy blood pressure and
cholesterol levels as well as a healthy immune system.
NSI® Mitochondrial Energy Booster with 200 mg is an excellent value
when compared to other brands
B Complex with Co-enzyme Q10
R-lipoic acid (RLA) is the naturally-occurring form of lipoic acid, a
nutrient present in every cell of the body, essential to chemical reactions
which allow the body to produce energy.
RLA is crucial in metabolism and energy production and functions as a
potent antioxidant to protect healthy cells from the damaging effects of
free radicals. Besides protecting membranes, mitochondria (the energy-
producing structures within cells) and cellular DNA, RLA work
synergistically with vitamins C and E and Coenzyme Q10.
Because it's both fat and water soluble, lipoic acid neutralizes free
radicals in fatty and watery cell regions (vitamin C is only water soluble
and vitamin E is only fat soluble). RLA is able to cross the blood- brain
barrier, enabling it to benefit neurons and cells throughout the body.
Lipoic acid increases levels of glutathione, an antioxidant, and plays an
important role in protecting the brain and vision health. It promotes
healthy blood glucose levels and by speeding removal of glucose from
the bloodstream and enhancing insulin function.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), or ubiquinone, is a naturally-occurring,
vitamin-like nutrient in every cell of the body. Found in highest
concentration in cell mitochondria (where energy is produced), its
primary function is to help convert food and oxygen into energy.
CoQ10 is a powerful antioxidant, neutralizing damage-causing free
radicals.
CoQ10 is believed to be of fundamental importance in cells with high
metabolic demands, such as cardiac cells. The heart, with greater
energy requirements than other organs, contains twice as much
CoQ10 as any other tissue in the body. Studies show that CoQ10
supports healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels, while also
promoting healthy immune-system function.
Studies in Parkinson's disease show that between 400 mg and 1,200
mg daily is safe and may effectively slow progression of this crippling
disorder. Other studies indicated CoQ10 protects brain cells (neurons)
from deadly free radicals.
CoQ10 helps against periodontal diseases like gingivitis. Research
indicates that the gum tissue of individuals with periodontal disease is
significantly deficient in CoQ10. Supplementing provides increased
energy needed by cells to maintain healthy gum and mouth tissue.
Levels of CoQ10 decline with age, resulting in less efficient organ
function because of reduced energy supply. Scientists studying aging
believe the decline of energy production within cells causes cell death
and dysfunction. Statin drugs, for high cholesterol, deplete the body
of CoQ10.
Although found naturally in fish, organ meats and peanuts,
supplementing with CoQ10 provides a potent dose that may be
lacking in your diet.
Unlike synthetic Chinese and Korean versions, NSI®'s CoQ10 is
highest- quality, 100% natural "trans" form, imported directly from
Japan. Synthetic CoQ10 is processed using tobacco and contains "cis
isomer", a non-natural molecule. NSI®'s CoQ10 is naturally
fermented, making it identical to our body's CoQ10.
Vitamin C -- "ascorbic acid" is needed for normal growth and body
maintenance. It functions in development and repair of all bodily tissues
and is crucial for healing wounds and repairing cartilage, bones and
teeth. Vitamin C is involved in production of collagen, used to make
skin, ligaments, tendons and blood vessels.
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, working to protect the body from
harmful free radicals which contribute to aging and disease. It's found in
all fruits and vegetables, but citrus fruits, strawberries, cantaloupe,
tomatoes, broccoli, potatoes and leafy greens are the best sources.
Vitamin C is not stored in the body and must be regularly replaced.
Deficiency is rare, but smoking, stress and illness cause reduced levels.
Vitamin C is known to strengthen the immune system. One study,
published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, found
that high-doses (1,000 mg to 6,000 mg) of vitamin C were able to
reduce the severity and duration of common-cold symptoms (when
taken at onset) by up to 21 percent. The immune-boosting effects of
vitamin C are helpful for fatigue/metabolism, wound/infection healing
and allergy issues.
Vitamin C's antioxidant properties give it heart-health benefits. Research
shows that vitamin C, taken with vitamin E helps prevent oxidation of
LDL cholesterol, which contributes to plaque buildup in coronary
arteries. It may also help with the maintenance of healthy blood
pressure levels.
Vitamin C gets rid of infection, but you must take it in fairly large
amounts, so take it at a time of day that staying in the bathroom will be
convenient. That's because the large amounts needed to reach peak
potency cause a digestive cleanout.
I took 30 grams a day for 5 days and it pretty much wiped out the
infection under my gums from the old dental implants I have. 30 grams
is 30 1,000mg tablets. But as I say, I had to spend extra time in the
bathroom. Worth it, though.
I took 15 of the 500mg in the morning, probably around 10 a.m., with a
few crackers. Then another 15 at lunch with food; food decreases the
impact on the digestive system. 15 in the afternoon, and the last 15 with
dinner around 5pm. But, as I say, I'm really big. I'm really tall and
heavy, so don't take that much unless you're 6 feet and over 250
pounds like me.
(As an aside, stress makes the infection come back.)
Become familiar with "methylcobalamin," read vitamin labels to see
whether that is the vitamin B12 form in the supplement.
On 1/25/08 I put Google ads on my site. I have filtered out some of the
advertisers who sell cyanocobalamin, but there are so many and they
have such a variety of names that I am going to have to trust that readers
of my site will not buy what is not most beneficial.
Natrol My Favorite Multiple - The betaine hydrochloric acid in it
cuts down on h.pylori and other destructive bacteria that take up
residence in our stomachs. I wanted a multi with little or no calcium
because of the overabundance of calcium in our diets as opposed to
magnesium, but I forgot about that, and this multi has a lot of calcium.
NSI® Probiotic 8-5 -- Probiotics are friendly bacteria that live in the
digestive tract and facilitate proper digestion and absorption of food.
Probiotics help keep unfriendly bacteria and potentially harmful
intruders from colonizing within the body.
Stress, poor diet, antibiotics and oral contraceptives can throw off the
balance between “good” and “bad” bacteria. This imbalance may lead
to increased yeast growth or other gastrointestinal disturbances.
NSI® Probiotic 8-5 is a proprietary complex delivering eight strains of
probiotic bacteria into the small intestines. The strains work to sustain a
healthy equilibrium and include L. acidophilus, L. casei, L. plantarum,
B. longum, B. breve, Lactococcus lactis lactis and Pediococcus
acidilactici. It also contains L. rhamnosus, a unique, high producer of
polysaccharides that facilitate colonization and stimulate intestinal
immune response.
NSI® Probiotic 8-5 is manufactured using the patented LiveBac®
process for an improved probiotic shelf life, even at room temperature.
NSI utilizes Viablend™ Gastric Acid Bypass Technology. Unlike enteric
coated capsules, which can become brittle and crack or chip, rendering
probiotics ineffective when exposed to gastric acids, our capsules deliver
more viable organisms to the intestinal tract.
Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme isolated from the non-
pathogenic bacteria Serratia species found in the digestive tract of the
Japanese silkworm. The enzyme is used by the worms to digest their
cocoons. Serrapeptase has been used as a natural supplement in Europe
and Asia for nearly three decades.
Each capsule of Best Serrapeptase contains enteric-coated, acid stable
granules of pure serrapeptase designed for optimal absorption in the
intestinal tract.
This has been excellent for me. I did a page on serrapeptase when it
was recommended to me, and I remain excited about this supplement a
year later.
I took a lot of Ibuprofen, then was warned by a good periodontist here
in Santa Fe that Ibuprofen, like Fozimax, has been shown to deteriorate
the bones of the jaw. After that I read that more than 5,000 deaths are
caused in the United States each year by over the counter pain killers. I
have totally switched to serrapeptase for my back pain and reducing
swelling, and to magnesium for headaches.
Heavy Metal Cleanse -- Judy, I'm putting this here for you. Take a
look, maybe it would help with the excess iron. I've been thinking of
trying something like this to see if it helps with the residual hydrogen
sulfide and another toxin I was exposed to.
This company apparently has a night and a morning formula: "Heavy
Metal Cleanse is a comprehensive heavy metal cleansing product. Its
proprietary formulation of 29 herbs and nutraceuticals is designed to
assist the body in the removal of heavy metals (mercury, lead, cadmium,
and arsenic) through natural oral chelation. The evening formula is
designed to bind and transport (chelate) heavy metals from internal
tissues; and then assist in eliminating these toxins from the body. The
morning formula contains the vitamins and minerals needed to nourish
and replenish the body during the cleansing process."
Metal Magnet's key ingredient, purified Humifulvate, is obtained from
a unique, spring-fed, Hungarian peat deposit that is over 3,000 years old.
It has been the subject of scientific studies for over 40 years. Research
shows that Metal Magnet binds to heavy metals such as lead and
cadmium, allowing the body to expel them more easily.
Years of environmental exposures to toxins, buildup of unhealthy waste
substances, and improper eating habits can all take their toll on your
system. Metal Magnet contributes to a healthy lifestyle by helping limit
the amount of heavy metals in the body.
This is very interesting. I've been worried about how I repotted my
avocado into a large, cadmium red pot. I did not realize when I bought
the pot that it was made with cadmium in the glaze. I've been worried
because not only do I not have the money to replace the pot, the
avocado does not look as if it wants to be dislodged again so soon. I
noticed that the lower leaves are misformed, and I read that the lower
part of plants tends to take the brunt of the toxin.
Dose conversion -- B12 from methylcobalamin lozenges as to B12
shots. Dissolving one 1,000mcg methylcobalamin lozenge under your
tongue each day for a month will equal one B12 injection a month.
Dissolving a 5mg lozenge under your tongue each day for a month will
equal, at the end of the month, five B12 shots in that month. When I
had a shot a day, that equaled 30mg a day, or 6 of the 5mg lozenges.
When I forgot that it had to be for a whole month, I found my health
deteriorated when I stopped my shots and switched only to the
lozenges. If I had remembered about the time required for the lozenges
to work equally well, then I wouldn't have had my symptoms increase
because I would have overlapped with shots for some time. Now I'm
using lozenges every day with no injections. (9/23/07)

without proper notice to me, and the fact that New
Mexico is so corrupt that a governing case favors
someone other than the original owner getting to
redeem. So I couldn't even redeem. The corruption is
getting me down.
Despite upping the amount of methylcobalamin I take a day, I still feel
like crying a lot and I'd like to never get up again... except when I see
that someone has bought something, then I get this wonderful spring-
like feeling and I stop feeling hopeless. Thank you VERY much. I can't
write every time someone buys something because I'm so stressed and
I'm making so many more errors due to my brain injury and the stress...
it takes a long time to correct all the errors. Like the other day when I
did my blog and left it all a mess because I thought I was finished when
I wasn't. Back to happier thoughts: Thank you !!!!! Happiness and
Thank you!!!! 2/16/08
To the person who ordered today, I want to tell you that your order
helped me remain calm when a part of my solar system, a really
important part, stopped working today. I was so tempted to think things
had gotten hopeless... but then I came here and saw your order and a
warm feeling began... I had to work to keep it and increase it, but I did.
And it was because, in large part, your order showed me that my pages
are useful to people and help me in return. Thank you. VERY much.

It was heart warming to see your order today, thank you. I wish I could
really explain and share with you how wonderful it is to find an order. It
just means so much to me. 1/13/08
Gosh, thank you for ordering from my site. I appreciate it so SO much.
Thank YOU! 1/11/08
Thank you SO much to the people who ordered on Thursday. It was
wonderful to see more than one order in a day. Very happy making.

Shift work-cancer link -- Scientists at the International Agency for
Research on Cancer (IARC) have found a possible link between night
work and tumor formation. Although numerous studies suggested a link
between night shift work and cancer, this is the first time it has been
evaluated by the IARC, said Aaron Blair, scientist emeritus at the U.S.
National Cancer Institute and chairman of the IARC Working Group
that evaluated the shift work-cancer link.
On the epidemiological side, "there's human data -- nurses, airplane
flight attendants, different groups that engage in shift work -- that have
an elevated risk of breast cancer, and that's the strongest finding," Blair
said. "There's lesser evidence, but some positive evidence, for
[increased risk of] prostate cancer, and a little less, but still positive,
evidence, for colon cancer."
In animal studies, rats exposed to light during their nocturnal, active
phase, also displayed spikes in cancer incidence, Blair said.
In investigations into possible biological mechanisms linking working
through the wee hours to heightened odds for malignancy, the strongest
theory involves melatonin, a hormone produced by the brain's pineal
gland. Shift workers interrupt their natural melatonin formation. 2007
Researchers in Hong Kong report that the hormone melatonin, more
commonly used to reduce the effects of jetlag, could protect the brain
from the effects of stroke. March, 2003
Trimethylglycine (TMG) (betaine HCl) -- promotes healthy
homocysteine levels and improves liver function. It often alleviates
symptoms of heartburn, and supports digestion in people with
hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid).
Symptoms of low stomach acid include stomach bloating, burping, upset
stomach, burning, flatulence, diarrhea, nausea from supplements, rectal
itching, weak, peeling/ cracked fingernails, dilated capillaries in cheeks/
nose (in non-alcoholics), post adolescent Acne, iron deficiency, other
mineral deficiencies, chronic intestinal infection, undigested food in stool,
ridges/lines on fingernails, pins and needles sensation in feet or hands.
I have not put links for other vitamin suppliers here because in the ones
I checked their B12 is cyanocobalamin, which is the wrong kind to help
very much. Cyanocobalamin will not help with serious nerve problems
enough for most people to notice a difference.
"Vitamin B12 has the largest, most complex chemical structure of all
the vitamins. It is unique among vitamins in that it contains a metal ion,
cobalt. For this reason cobalamin is the term used to refer to compounds
having vitamin B12 activity. Methylcobalamin and 5-deoxyadenosyl
cobalamin are the forms of vitamin B12 used in the human body." Brody

Amino acids in relation to growth hormone --
Growth hormone production declines with age. This has been
associated with age-related changes in cognitive and immune
function, bone density, body composition, quality of life, sleep and
energy levels.
Natural Growth Hormone (Natural GH) Formulas combines specific
vitamins and amino acids to promote the body’s own production of
growth hormone as a natural alternative for anti-aging purposes.
Results from using these formulas may be enhanced when combined
with exercise and proper nutrition.
Protein Powders - At one point I switched to NSI Whey ISO Protein
powder because it contains one pound more than the Jarrow formula
- but you are supposed to use three rather than one scoop.
I compared the protein provided in different protein powders. Take a
look at the comparisons shown in the chart below.

Gosh, the comparison is interesting. NSI suggests three scoops, when apparently each scoop has
about as much protein in it as the Jarrow. I was curious how goat, rice, egg and hemp protein
compared so I added rice and hemp to the chart. The rice protein is less expensive - I may try it
next time.

Okay, I've been using the
NSI Whey and I'm
starving after using it. It
must not be a complete
protein.
The hemp one might be
good in brownies, it
definitely tastes like the
smokin' 60s.
Natural Vitamin A - I switched back to this cheap brand as it seems
to work better for me. I take vitamin A at night before I go to sleep to
eliminate nasal drainage from eating milk based products. It also helps
with vision: if my eyes are sensitive to light then I know I'm running
low on vitamin A.
Well over a decade ago I found that taking vitamin A reduced hayfever
symptoms, but I took so much, and this is not a vitamin that is safe to
take in large amounts, that I had these sort of scab things form inside
my nose. There were other side affects as well, but I don't remember
them as clearly. I know I had to stop taking it and drink a lot of liquid
to flush my system. Everything returned to normal fairly quickly, which
was good except that the hayfever was flourishing and I couldn't take
more vitamin A.
It was a decade or so later that I discovered that MegaB vitamins got
rid of my hayfever, completely.
ScienceDaily (Feb. 12, 2009) reported that Texas AgriLife research
scientists have discovered that arginine, an amino acid, reduces fat mass
in diet-induced obese rats and could help fight human obesity according
to findings published recently in the Journal of Nutrition.
Lab experiments showed that rats given arginine supplementation over
12 weeks had a decrease in body fat gains of 63 percent in rats fed
high-fat diets and 65 percent in rats fed low-fat diets. Neither group of
rats showed any long term adverse effects.
Some foods containing arginine are: seafood, watermelon juice, nuts,
seeds, algae, meats, rice protein concentrate and soy protein isolate.
From the research it appears that arginine increases lean tissue growth.
For instance, it was found that pigs given dietary arginine
supplementation reduced fat accretion but increased muscle gain.
The research also indicated that dietary arginine reduced serum
concentrations of "branched-chain amino acids," which would be an
important metabolic change because elevated concentrations of
branched-chain amino acids appear to lead to insulin resistance in
obesity.
Finally, arginine appears to stimulate muscle protein synthesis, a
biochemical process that requires large amounts of energy, according to
Wu. It appears that dietary energy in the presence of arginine is used for
lean tissue gain rather than fat gain.

Country Life Daily Total One -- I'm going to try this. It's less
costly and it has less calcium and copper, which are characteristics I
was looking for in a multivitamin. Also it contains and excellent form of
vitamin B12, so that's good, too.
I was taking my multi several times to day to sort of keep my body
stoked, but this will be fine - it is a vitamin you take once a day.
Previously I was taking the multi immediately below this
Flaxseed Oil - Omega 3 - fatty acids have been shown to decrease
the rate of atherosclerotic plaque formation, decrease triglyceride levels,
raise HDL (good) cholesterol levels, and slightly lower blood pressure in
both healthy individuals and patients with cardiac disease.
According to a paper published in April, 2009, Omega 3 may decrease
risk of advanced prostate cancer. "We detected strong protective
associations between increasing intake of long-chain omega-3
polyunsaturated fatty acids and more advanced prostate cancer," said
John S. Witte, University of California professor. Other studies have
show diets with Omega 3 improve brain development and memory.
Yes, Omega-3 buffers against cancer, reduces the risk of cardiac
disease and improves immune function, but in a presentation to the
Society for General Microbiology in Harrogate, UK on March 30th,
2009, Lorraine Lillis, University College Dublin, reported a side effect
in cows: Omega-3 reduces the amount of methane in their burps.
Lillis found that a diet that included 2 percent Omega 3 reduced the
number of methane-producing bacteria in the cows’ guts; fewer
methanogens produce less methane.
Since I hadn't been using Omega 3, and I was having flatulence, I
decided to try it, and WaLa, it appears to work!
NSI® flaxseed oil - a good way to supplement your intake of essential
fatty acids (EFAs). NSI Organic Flax Seed Oil contains large quantity of
the potent antioxidant, alpha linolenic acid (Omega-3).
Flaxseed is also a rich source of plant lignans, a type of nutrient found
in plants, nuts, whole grains and seeds. Plant lignans enhance
antioxidant protection and hormonal balance.
NSI® Organic Flax Seed Oil is certified organic
Astaxanthin - After using Serrapeptase with excellent results for over
five years, the Serrapeptase didn't seem as effective against the pain
when I hurt my back, October, 2010. While I continue to use
Serrapeptase, I am now also using Astaxanthin, which many people
have found to be helpful against pain resulting from exercise.
I have begun a page on Astaxanthin, but find weeding through the
research a bit slow going. That's because Astaxanthin is relatively new
and most of the research is with animals. I'm used to the research being
past this stage and concentrating on human use.
Still, I will work on the page with the intention of completing it.
Astaxanthin is also reported to be effective in preventing sun burn.

Their prices are attractive but their directions are misleading. B12's molecule is large, so using the lozenge with a meal means that the smaller food molecules will win out over the
B12. Plus, swallowing the lozenge defeats its purpose. With age and certain conditions the digestive system no longer absorbs B12 and magnesium properly, hence the need for a lozenge to dissolve under the tongue.
